Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) is an evidence-based program that provides free home visiting nurses to help transform the lives of vulnerable first-time moms and their babies. Through one-on-one home visits by trained registered nurses, low-income, eligible first-time moms receive the care and support they need to achieve a healthy pregnancy, a healthy baby and be a great mom.
NFP works by having specialty trained nurses regularly visit first-time moms-to-be, starting early in the pregnancy, and continuing through the child’s second birthday. Expectant moms benefit by getting the care and support they need to have a healthy pregnancy. At the same time, new moms develop a close relationship with a nurse who becomes a trusted resource they can rely on for advice on everything from safely caring for their child to taking steps to provide a stable, secure future for them both.
Home visiting nurse outcomes include long-term family improvements in health, education, and financial stability. By helping to break the cycle of poverty, nurses play an important role in helping to improve the lives of society’s most vulnerable members, build stronger communities, and leave a positive impact on this and future generations.
