Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)

Southwest District Health offers testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). STDs are infections that are passed from one person to another through sexual contact. The causes of STDs are bacteria, parasites, yeast, and viruses. Some types of STDs are:

  • Chlamydia
  • Genital Herpes
  • Gonorrhea
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Syphilis
  • Hepatitis B
  • Hepatitis C
  • Trichomoniasis
  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

STDs can affect both men and women. Antibiotics can treat STDs caused by bacteria, yeast, or parasites. There is not a cure for STDs caused by a virus, but medicine can often help with symptoms.
